In 1974, I was stationed in Monterey at the Defense Language Institute, where I studied Russian. It's very beautiful and a wonderful place to live.
This is a view from the wharf at Monterey looking up into the Defense Language Institute.
These are the seals on the jetty just up from Cannery Row.
Here's a pelican sitting on Fishermen's Wharf.
Just down the coast from Monterey, on the other side of Carmel, is Pt. Lobos. It's very beautiful and noted for the cypress which have been sculpted into fantastic shapes by the wind and weather.
Another cypress looks completely different. It's even hard to believe they're the same type of tree.
In addition to the cypress trees, the coast itself is very beautiful all along this part of California.
Small coves surprise you with the color and the richness of the plant life.
The rocks and coast are a neverending panorama.
At Pt. Lobos, there are many fantastic views through the cypress trees that are everywhere.
